Kumasi High School is a category A boys' senior high school located in Gyinyase, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Established in 1962, it became a public institution in 1964. The school is also known by its acronym, KUHIS, and its students are referred to as Mmerantee (Gentlemen). History and development Establishment: The school was initially a private institution named Kwame Nkrumah Secondary School, founded by S. K. Amoah in 1962. Name change: After the 1966 military coup, its name was changed to Kumasi High School. Location: The school moved to its permanent site in Gyinyase in 1977. Gender: It was originally a mixed-sex school, but the female students were transferred to Kumasi Girls Secondary School in the 1966/67 academic year, making it a single-sex boys' school. Academics and achievements Courses: KUHIS offers courses in General Arts, General Science, Agricultural Science, Business, and Visual Art. Academic excellence: The school is highly regarded in Ghana and is known for its academic rigor, with management and staff dedicated to improving WASSCE results. It features modern tartan tracks, a standard football pitch, and other amenities. Alumni support: The alumni association, known as Imrania, has made significant contributions to the school's development.
